I like to write about everything! I also like designing random things! (https://girly-programmer.creator-spring.com/)

I am not an expert at resume-writing or at cracking the technical interview, but I did my fair share of grinding.

Recently, I’ve been getting questions regarding my experience interviewing, as a bootcamp student, transitioning careers, and etc. Being the English major that I am, I’ve decided to write another article.

Quick TLDR

You have to put in your own work.

Why did I transition to tech?

I like being in the finance/banking industry but I also wanted to be in a job that sparked my creative and logical side. I felt that my previous…

I feel old and young at the same time. Weird age.

However, I can confidently say that I’ve matured a lot in the last few years. Here are 25 out of I-don’t-even-know-how-many lessons that I’ve learned over the years.

Disclaimer: I am not trying to give financial advice, I am just sharing my life :)

1. Stay home for dates — game nights

My partner and I used to go out A LOT for dates and we didn’t go to cheap places. We both agree that we don’t have any regrets because they were good experiences. …

When and why did I apply?

I got it in July 2019 purely for aesthetics. I regret getting this card. As you can tell from the points section, there aren’t a lot of areas to use this card. Hopefully, there will be more in the future.

What was the promotion?

None. :(

Annual fee?

$0.

Where and how do I use it?

Benefits that stand out

  • Titanium Card: Fancy white titanium card. It doesn’t feel like the Amex Rose Gold/Platinum or the Sapphire Reserve, but it does feel heavy. The titanium card doesn’t really have benefits. Most of the benefits come from the…

At one point, I wanted to be an in-house counsel. I was studying for the LSAT, but I wasn’t particularly interested when I was studying. I was quite bored but I’m glad I found out that the J.D. route wasn’t for me earlier on.

If you’re wondering whether or not going to law school is the right path for you, then this article might just help you! Or maybe you’re just curious about how a JD could advance their career.

At what point did you know that you wanted to get a JD?

I would say the senior year of high school. I was in my school’s law program and I got a…

When and why did I apply?

It was on a whim back in April of 2021. I saw the promotion and I couldn’t resist. This is actually my first real Chase card under my own name (not counting the Amazon card).

What was the promotion?

Spend $500 in 3 months and get 20k Ultimate Reward points (about $200 in value).

Annual fee?

$0.

Where and how do I use it?

Benefits that stand out

  • Chase Offers: Every so often, you will get some coupons to use at select sites. The sites could vary from…

Back in 2019, my resume sucked. It sucked so much that I would use it as toilet paper if I wasn’t scared of clogging the toilet.

When I saw this financial analyst’s resume, I was shocked. It was so neat. We are the same age but his resume looked so professional at first glance.

That was when I realized why I hadn’t been getting any internships and any interview requests. It all made sense.

my actual reaction when I saw his resume

It took a while but I finally got the courage to ask him to send me a copy…

I am in software development, so my resume and job search tips might not apply to other industries. So I thought it would be fun to share the stories of my connections!

First in the series will be my best friend, Oliver! He is a mechanical engineer based in NYC and is finishing up his Master’s thesis as I am typing up this article. He was looking on Indeed, Glassdoor, and his college job site and was able to land a job in less than two months!

I am helpless when it comes to math. I failed my first math…

When and why did I apply?

I was about to move from New York to Texas in early July 2021 and I had to buy a lot of new furniture and pantry items. I knew I would be spending a few thousand dollars and I had been eyeing this card for a while now. I added 1 and 1 together and got this card.

It’s rose gold! And it’s a metal card! I couldn’t resist.

What was the promotion?

Spend $4000 in the first 6 months to get 75k points.

Annual fee?

$250. But the benefits cover the annual…

This article may seem like I hate my parents. I do not, at least not anymore. I do admit that I used to hate being born Chinese and hate how “Chinese” my parents were. They still frustrate me from time to time due to the generation gap and language barrier. As I live through my life, I begin to understand that they’re products of their time, the Cultural Revolution.

My parents know that having a good education is a good way to climb out of poverty, but they simply don’t know how to help me. It all comes down to…

Whether the interview is behavioral or technical, it’s easy to get nervous and forget your “script”.

In this article, I’ve included the main three questions that I think are quite common in behavioral interviews.

Tell me about yourself./Walk me through your resume.

There are quite a few variations to his prompt, but it’s pretty easy to recognize any variations. It is usually the first question and it will ask you to sell yourself. Thus, this is your chance to make a first good impression.

How to prep?

You don’t need…
